Kasumi Ayase (綾瀬 香純, Ayase Kasumi) is one of the main characters in Dies Irae and one of the main heroines in the novel. She is the childhood friend of Shirou and Ren.

Kasumi and Ren grew up in the same house and are very close. She has a crush on Ren.
The two are close friends. After his and Ren's fight, Kasumi was confident that he would come back. She has no idea that Shirou was the one who killed her father.
Kasumi initially meets Marie when she finds her naked in Ren's bed. While initially confused and agree, she quickly comes to like Marie.

Kasumi is a well-trained kendo student and that she can easily strike down a practice dummy.

While under the influcence of Mercurius, she temporarily wield the guillotine in its Assiah form, which is an invisible blade that she can fire at her enemy. Her physical fitness also increases, giving her superhuman speed.

- The name Kasumi means "fragrance, fragrant" (香) (ka) and "pure, clean, simple" (純) (sumi).
- Kasumi's surname Ayase means "design" (綾) (aya) and "swift current, rapids" (瀬) (se).
